Substrate turned blue!!!

Postby Ali » Sun Mar 12, 2017 6:52 pm

Recently I treated my main 60 gal tank for Ich & Fungal Diseases.
After treating for a couple of weeks some of the substrate has turned blue. :ymalien:

Worried, what should I do next. Did the 30% weekly water change today.
Should I rescape after taking out the whole substrate & giving a thorough wash.
Gotten pretty much disheartened after a bunch of Angels dying in a week. :(

Sir, don't have an extra tank or wouldv'e tried to quarantine the affected fishes.
Added Api Aquarium Salt with raising the temp. to 29-30c with 30% water changes every 2-3 days.
Was losing dwarf rainbows so couldn't wait to order the Api products and got the Rid-All Anti-Ich from LFS.
After treating the tank for 2 weeks, checked the tank & couldnt find any fishes affected. To my surprise/bad luck found
the only Bosemani & a Dwarf having fungal infection on their dorsal & tail fin.
To be honest panicked & got the Anti-Fungus from the same LFS & repeated the process.
Lost another guppy & another dwarf during this time.

As of now there is no infections or Ich found on the fishes but its disheartening to lose so many fishes.
And now half of the substrate (white sand) has turned blue (most probably for the products put in it for the last 3 weeks).
And in a dilemma that should I take out the whole substrate out for a wash or do something else.
Have ordered the Api Freshwater Kit to check out the water parameters.

I've started this hobby after quite a long break Sir, trying to not lose hope in this.

Sir, shall I keep doing the changes for another month ?
Do I have to take the substrate out or it'll stay of the same color.
Thanks & Regards

The Ich medication may contain Methylene blue. That's probably the culprit. The substrate may wash clean but I'm unsure of how much time it will take. Apart from being unsightly, I don't think you'll see other adverse effects.

I've been doing my usual weekly water change, its reduced quite a lot now.
Tank has cycled now quite well & the fishes are stable & happy.
