i too have a plan for a long time but but dad keeps postponing dat. so if I were you one thing that I will try out at first is cover the surface with floating plants so that water might not become green water if you are no plan for a filtration unit.
you can try amazon frogbits, but then you wont be able to keep puntis and carps, they eat up the roots....to left are the smaller floating plants. I can help you with some to begin with as I have one of my tanks covered with that...you can use flat trays to keep some sand and subs to grow plants like vals, swords etc...believe me, there are many many options but at the same time can be a bit costly to make it full of planted in a cleaner way such that if you walk in the pond, the water doesnt get cloudy... :)
why planted-imo, thats the only way to balance things...for aeration, if possible, get a small solar panel and use that to run the air pump... i doubt if that will b feasible, but jst an idea to scratch head upon... :D

btw, do let us know if u have any special plans for it... :)

thanx for ur reply sanam, i was thinking of the solar powered fountain for aeration. its available online but i have doubt abt the quality of the product.i will do some more research on it.
i will start with the plants first.which is the best site to order online and flat trays are they available online also?

i just saw this while surfing, floating pond plant barrier, i can have 2 varieties of floating plant without danger of the pond getting covered. is this available any where in kolkata.
also any risk of fishes eating the plant.

Read about rift lake cichlids, central-south american cichlids, oddball fishes like. As per the dimensions given your takn should be over 1400 gallons(considering 2.5 feet water height. I would suggest to go for a large fish setup. The interaction you would get would be well worth it. You can start the setup with cichlids(lake malawi or.central south american) and gradually move to monster setup with peacock bass, arowanas, sting rays, bichirs, datnoids etc. Read up on them and see if you like.
