Hi Guies, I have some queries,
I have plan for 10% monthly water change, is that ok?
What will be the time interval for mechanical filter pad cleaning? Can it be washes in the normal tap water? Will it harm beneficial bacteria?
Is there any commercially available product in the market for colorful macro algae growth?
Also sea foam can be used for calcium buffering?

Thanks in advance.

Q: I have plan for 10% monthly water change, is that ok?
A: No, change atleast 40L of water, (2 buckets of 20L) or if not, atleast 30L. I cant say for sure how much will 10% amount to, if its more than 30L, the better

Q: What will be the time interval for mechanical filter pad cleaning? Can it be washes in the normal tap water? Will it harm beneficial bacteria?
A: For mechanical, 2 times a month should be sufficient. If you have higher bioload, you can do a little more frequent, but its all relative, if you have one clownfish in your tnak, you can do it once every 2 months too :P

Its advised to wash in tank water only so that the bb doesn't die off.

Q: Is there any commercially available product in the market for colorful macro algae growth?
A: Purple up is a commercial product, but its just purple algae spores...you can buy it, but unless you have proper setup, its basically useless...you need light and dosing for them to flourish.

Q: Also sea foam can be used for calcium buffering?
A: No. You can't just buffer Ca only, you need to simultaneously buffer alk to maintain the balance.
Read the posts in reef chemistry, there you can get the better idea.

Subhadeep

Thanks for the information..Yes I have hard about purple up, but only for purple coralline algae, but there are several color like red, orange , green & yellow..is it possible to bring that color mixture in our artificial setup?
Also these are micro algae, what about macro algae(like that green one commonly used in refugium)? Will it come automatically with proper setup? or we have to bring that manually. I hard it keep aside the unwanted micro algae.

nothing, just let it go on..its natural...your tank is undergoing cycling.
Also, use RO/DI water for top ups. Less PO4
