My new upgradation - 4' marine : The End!

Postby el batty » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:48 am

Update 1: 11th June 2012

I have got myself the much sought after 4' tank with provision for sump. From here onwards, i will start my second wave of marine venture after rectifying the mistakes that i made and with a little bit more experience and hazard handling capabilities.

Tank dimension : 48" L, 16" B, 24" H. Glass drilled with a diameter of 1.6". So, technically when i run this tank, it will be of water water 21" - substrate height. Although there is no such odor of silicon anymore as the tank was in the maker's place for more than 3-4 days soaked in water, still i am taking extra precaution. I have filled the tank with fresh water and added 2 packets of normal non-iodized salt and attached 2 powerheads on two sides for water circulation. I intend to carry this on till Sunday when i will shift the location to a final destination.

Problems faced yet - Furniture and plumbing of sump. I planned the whole thing to be kept on a furniture already possessed. But, somehow i feel that the sheer weight of the tank+water+ROCKSSSS will be a little too overwhelming and i might end up with a tragedy. The whole sump plumbing went haywire as the positioning of the sump tank is undecided now.

Items yet to be bought: 1. sump pump (don't want the fancy 2500 types, i am told there is one in the market available for 800 bucks...aiming for that one. )
2. New test kits
3. 10 kg of shell dust would have been a bonus but if not, gotta manage with the quantity i have.

Will keep on updating with pics soon.

Wishlist :
soft corals
dead rocks
a bubble tip in 2013
and maximum 3-5 fishes.

I think its a fair deal. What say?

Dont take good lucks from Kestoda, take some marine plant cuttings (read, coral fragments).

I think designing a sump in a proper manner is very important step and also choosing the right filter media. Start a journal when you are ready. Buy a cheap digicam first of all, 5-6k will be enough.

Without chiller i don't have enough plant cutting :( :( :( But if my present stock survives this summer heat then by winter i hope I will have enough plant cutting (mushroom    ) to share.
