My marine journal (pg 6 updated)

Postby bunty123 » Sun Dec 08, 2013 5:17 pm

After a long time my nano seems to be perfectly ok.Tank is only 5 gallon with 4kg dead rocks. It has an internal flow and lights are led.Salinity is 1.023 and have used red sea coral pro salt.Substrate is shell dust.No dosing no additives. Please feel free to suggest any thing you like and comment.Need all of yours support and help for future.Meanwhile thinking of introducing a smallnpiece of live rock with good coralline algae on it.

10/12/2012 UPDATE
Today added three chunks of live rocks.Got 1 kg which was the minimum i was offered everywhere so finally got it from splashing meadows.Running the lights and filters 7-8 hrs daily.Waiting for good development of bacteria.Meanwhile saw some white creatures moving up and down the filter wall....they were very very small maybe 1/5th an inch in size. What are they?
Saw brown algae formation on my previous rocks which were dead. Also need to get hold of a good marine dealer(would be helpful to get someone near ballygunge, kasba).Need contact number for future supply and fish and cleanup crew.So experts please tell me am i doing the things correctly and what to follow and do next. Please comment and support :D

@bunty: there is no sign of corallines on your lrs, as you spoke b'fore that you wanted to buy lrs wth coralline.
Nextly, filters should run for 24*7, not for 7-8hrs daily.
BTW, what kind of filtration is running in your nano?
Did you you mesured NH3 or NO2 parameters of tank after your addition of new lrs? As few creatures are always die off at the time of transportation.
Have you bought any skimmer?
THERE IS NOTHING AS TRANSPARENT AS WATER. BE TRANSPARENT, AND WORLD COMES TO YOU THE SAME. ALWAYS KEEP SMILING.....

oh....so what are those pink things on my rocks?so will you mind sharing some coralline algae with me??i saw yout tank has florished with c.algae!
Ok,will let the filter run 24 hours.
Its inbuilt filter type just as in fluval spec 5 gallon.running the filter mainly for circulation purpose as the water is almost clear.Dont have any filter media inside it yet.
Didnt check the parameters. Will carry a sample to my local shop for testing tomorrow.Actually i need help here.So i read that ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are to be tested and so api test kits are good but arent all the three sets available alltogether in one box....??
I havent bought a skimmer yet cause i was suggested that for the first few months there wont be anything for skimming. Also some sites suggest to go skimmer less and do water change monthly.Even some say skimmers remove also many useful elements from the tank....am confused.
