About the top filter,
This has a air intake pipe, and I have attached a flow valve to it,
Sure it reduces the bubbles, but also greatly reduces flow..

Can it be utilized like that?

Also,I can make a attachment for the outflow,a bar sprinkler basically

That will decrease any turbulence and still filter

Can I do that instead of buying a top filter?

Any suggestions on this?

One small question about danios

Their ideal temp is below 25
They do live and become more active above that temp, but with shortened lifespan because of increased metabolism.

My question is,how can we then keep it in kolkata summer temps without chiller?
Or have they actually adapted to this temp range..since they are primarily Indian origin?

What's the usual lifespan of them in Kolkata aquariums?

Well..they will have to do without a chiller then!
;)

I currently have set it at 24..the heater..so it doesnt go below that..so marginally ok for betta

And well..marginally ok for danios too

And right now, they are very happy..been 3 days..

Will have to see what happens in summer..
The day time temp will be much higher..but should be alright in night

I read somewhere,thats fine,
As long as temps are not perpetually high, they won't have much problem.

Just one thing about heaters , please buy really high quality one's as i found that the local heaters do not maintain temperature correctly, so i set it at 32 and after an hour all the fish looked agitated i checked the water temperature with a thermometer and it was 45 , the water was extremely hot, never used that heater again , you can buy some quality one's online like fluval, jbl or ista ...

Well..I bought a RS one..before knowing all this..but I did have an idea that they might not be accurate..

So I bought a suck-on thermometer..

And I knew..that might also be inaccurate..

I have access to a proper mercury centigrade thermometer..

Mine was obviously inaccurate..but it was easy to check the offset..and set it accordingly..so the reading on the thermostat is redundant..currently set at 22..
Actual temp is 25.(offset not fixed for different temperature setting)

Amazingly, the add on thermometer was pretty accurate with fixed offset of 1.5 degree

Checked with various temps..

So now its pretty much stably set..evrything works fine..
I do check with the mercury thermometer from time to time though..not required..

But one question comes to mind..for which fish did you set 32?
Its above the recommended range for the common tropical fishes I have studied.

So how are the fish now?
Definitely they had a heat wave in their weather at that time [WINKING FACE]
Specially since they are cool water beings..

@Bappa @KingshukPC - To be honest most Local Fish Stores in india are run by a bunch of idiots, they do not even tell the buyers about nitrogen cycle, canister filter , filter media, nothing, no one keeps quality products like seachem , fluval etc, it was only when i joined and read fish forums like this great forum of people from Calcutta , i realised so many things ...

Really they think people in india won't spend much money so keep giving them substandard stuff , which in longer run is actually more costly then buying good quality product once ..
