from catching please let me share this-but please dont get angry on the procedure I used to apply in my school days :(. Sit at pukur paar with a flexible konchi in hand and keep it raised..material for konchi used to be either sojne gaach er soru daal or papaya leaf's danda...both has its own advantages for dfrnt scenarios....once you are sure you will hit the fish, hit it but dont let the konchi get into water...jst till the surface or else the fish will die instantly...with some practice of not hurting the fish too much, the fish would turn bottom up :|
bring it back home, aerate the water and the fish will be fine in a hr. I have kept many during those times in choubacchas and all were caught using this technique, however I killed a few initially during the hitting procedure...

One question-I have seen some extra ordinarily colored ones, veil tails mostly with iridescent blue/green too but in some different pond. are they of same species?

It should take quite a few lives to make you expert techokho catcher. But I salute your passion for them...... :-bd

I had a rather different technique those days. I used a “vater eto hari”, covered it with some old piece of cloth (nakra) with few entries on it and placed it in the water. The surface of the hari should touch the water surface. Within half an hour many small fishes (like punti, desi tangra, chala and obviously techokho) entered the “hari trap” through the small opening of the cloth. Then quickly I removed the hari from water and it was generally full of fishs..... :p
To allure them often I used “khol vaja” also in the hari..... :p
I have learned how to be a learner.....

This is the reason I started this thread...... :ymblushing:

Have done night searching for Channas yesterday, because during night surprisingly they come near shallowest parts of waterbody as per my experience.....
Will share this experience quickly.......

Nothing like catching fishes with bare hand in shallow water..I catched borneo sucker in a waterfall area and it was so awesome.

by this u made me remember catching my 12 v juvi sophores in 10" cube tank of mine...bare hand toh jst impossible...even with net, It takes me half and hr to catch thm untill they r tired... v v v agile fishes and would hide under vegetation in a way that it becomes hard to locate thm... :|
last time my tenellus mat was nearly destroyed trying catching thm :|

Wild fish might not suspect your hand as a potential trap..I catched so many types of fishes by hand.. techokha as well, badis, panchax etc also not impossible.
