Collection at Purbasthali Oxbow Lake

Postby anupam mukherjee » Thu May 07, 2015 12:43 pm

Has anyone been to Purbasthali Oxbow Lake for collection of plants or native fishes ? During my last couple of visits at the lake during winter for birding have seen many aquatic plants but due to my insufficient knowledge not been able to identify them. May be this year some KACians can pay a visit for collection. What say ?

The district is burdwan on howrah katwa main line. Its almost 3 hours journey from howrah. @krishnendu da knows the location as we visit that place for migratory birds during winter.

Very good for native fishes.
Though I have been there for many times for birds only, for my PhD project.
Also measured many native fishes in that region.
Khapla jal is very good for collection.
I used native fish traps (ghuni) for small native fish.
Also good for aquatic plants. Full of Vals and many others......
I have learned how to be a learner.....

@avik It is not very difficult going there. From Katwa a 10mins cycle van ride to Chupir Ghat....
and then have to book a boat in contract....
But this season is not very worthy for a field trip like this kind.
As we are not going for summer data collection, why not wt till Nov?
This season in open sun for 3/4 hours on boat can drain out all the water from one's body..... :((
So I think wt till Nov then expense the whole energy wisely..... :)
I have learned how to be a learner.....
