Fish Collection from NorthBengal

Postby tigermath » Thu May 03, 2012 5:10 am

Hi guys, just back from a WILD fish collection tour from North Bengal. We collected Badis sp. Buxa, Badis Badis, Blue and Black rainbow shrimps, lots of crayfishes, Glass, Tiger and Green rocket shrimps, needlefish, loach, danios and an unidentified barb, to name a few. It was literally an elephant infested place, and one of us always stood at the bank, vigilent about any animals presence near the waterbodies.

Photos are coming soon. We are too tired to upload and download the photos.
Regards,

Avik

Did not find pipefish, heard about it from the local tribal people, can not remember now the local name. The fishes are now with Souvik. We have also collected plants from the water bodies. Hope Sou can imitate the biotope well.

By the way, we found a Barilious species, but could not catch it live. They locally call it BORELI fish, very tasty with smoking hot rice in a tribal village. :)

Avik

Congrats for carrying out excavations in NB and eagerly waiting for the dairy and pics. Which river/stream you explored? Must be in Jalpaiguri or Coachbihar areas. BTW did you find any new genus from Channa, Chanda, Danios or any unknown Rice fish?
