For those who have chosen LED to be their preferred lighting choice for reef tanks, may I ask the reason why they think so?

Thanks and regards,

@ Samudragupta, if anyone wants to start a low budget marine, what light should he/she invest in for minimum requirement.

Subhadeep..Lighting to an extent will depend upon tank dimensions and what species you wish to keep..
A bare minimum combination of Fluorescent lights (notably of higher colour temp) and actinic tubes should be ok for fish only tanks..

Actually i will be buying lights for my 36x18x16 tank. In invertibrates, i just have a colony of green button polyp and a tubeworm. Except that all is dead rock and fish only! Please guide on the lighting factor and the wattage too would help.

I am supposed to buy a HO tube and 1 blue actinic light. Will they suffice?

Assuming you tank height is 18inch, 2 nos. T5 6500K (10000 K tube preferred if available) and 2 nos. actinic tube (20000 k) will do. But the best choice is 70W Metal Halide or equivalent LED.
