Ideal light & filter for my tank

Postby Drarnab » Sat Jul 08, 2017 11:04 am

Hello everyone. I have an 30"×15"×15" aquarium. As this will be my 1st planted one, so I want to make a low tech one.
Need your suggestions about everything! The substrate, the light & the filter are the primary thing I need consultation about. Here are few of my homework that I have already done...

For fert I went to sodepur rail station & collected rexolin already. He was telling to take npk in different ratio for macro fert purpose but didn't buy that.

For filter I choose sunsun canister filter. But confused about model. 302 or 302B seems good for my setup. Need suggestion here.

For light Amazon is charging a lot for sunsun ADE 600 lights. This model is out of stock in indianaquarium.com. Hoper lights from umino is also in consideration but don't know whether it'll be a good one for planted aquarium or not.

Laterite + sand+gravel is my 1st option. Otherwise Amazonia ADA but need your advice here about the amount.

Currently it'll be a low tech one but may upgrade later if time & situation favors.

I am also in the same boat as you are. I am also setting up my first planted tank.

So, I also have fertilizer related doubts and will closely follow this thread. I consulted my local aquarist friends here in Bangalore and based on their suggestion i purchased these items so far

1. Ada Super 4
2. JBL Aquabasis Plus
3. Contro Soil 9 Lts.
4. Ryouh rocks
5. Sunsun canister 302
6. A driftwood to fit my 2ft X 1ft X 16inch (17USG) tank.
7. DIY Led full spectrum grow lights from Mr. Safi (Aqua plant studio) chennai.
8. Co2 DIY kit from Aliexpress.

I am pre occupied with some office related works. Once I get time, I would start aquascaping soon.

This is an wonderful forum and lots of seniors are there to help us. I am closely following this space for more learning.

https://umino.in/aquarium-accessories-l ... india.html

http://www.easypets.in/top-light/sunsun ... 6008136438

I've narrowed down my light search between these two. Which one will be better for a planted tank? Any other apart from this two if anyone want to suggest please let me know. Thanks..

I don't think that umino one is good for planted as it is only 11 watt which i think is not sufficient for you aquarium

Hi Drarnab, it seems that initially you want to make a low tech tank, My suggestion will be go for laterite + sand + gravel, for lights u may go for Philips PLL lamps and invest the extra LED & Amazonia amount to buy a branded Canister, May be Fluval, Eheim or Fluval Marina, this will be a long term good investment as ur plan is to upgrade in future, I have a Sunsun 302 and it is lying aside coz i am not getting the spare of it, this is the problem with the chinese products. For Macro u can visit the chemical shops in central or college street, there r few just behind the Central Metro station but u will require some ID proof xerox and declaration for buying these.

But what have you thought about the CO2 part?

All the best

In this thread already I asked about a DIY co2 kit. Still confused.

Anyway, thanks vikramdutta for your reply. Very much helpful. Few more questions again, if you have time please.
1= already I bought Amazonia soil two 9 lit pkt, one ADA sand (corse one) one additive (super 4 or something like that couldn't recall).
Planning about new light. Sunsun ADS-500 C is considering now.
About filter could you please guide about model & company?
