Postby somnathmitra1984 » Fri Aug 18, 2017 8:30 pm

Hello friends..
I am keeping one 30 G planted tank from last 2 years. But suddenly from last 4-5 months my plants are started to melt.I am giving the details below-
size-30G
light-18 watt LED light (2ft tube) 1no and 18 watt CFL tube (2ft) 1no
Fertilizer-micro and macro regularly on alternative basis
Co2-Using DIY sugar yeast co2
Filter-DIY top filter with 5 lit bucket having full with filter sponge (no chemical media)
Substrate-2-3mm stone chip.
Water change-every 2 weeks (50%)
Just few months back it was lash green jungle but suddenly everything changed. Now the problem is that the vallisneria are not growing, all my pygmy chain sword melted, new leaves in anubias nana is smaller in size and not well even older leaves started to melt.Java fern leaves are also melted.all other plants are faced root rot and leaf melt.Should I dismantle the tank and replant again?
what is the reason I am unable to understand. It is very depressing.I am attaching all photos.please help me to find out the reason.

From my point of view its nutritional deficiency try to add root tabs or increase your dosing by weekly water change 50%

okay...but I have tried increased dosing for few days but it is causing BBA attack... :(
and I think root tabs will not serve the purpose as java fern and anubias have no roots under substrate...

What r u dosing in tank any details nd your top filter is on lower side because its expelling all co2 from water and due to unavailability of co2 your plants r not taking up the nutrients which is heavily accumulated in water column nd causing bba

Sorry to say, I think hardly any lush growth in your tank for last two years.
What are your micro and macro ?
Top filter with DIY CO2 injection is equal to no CO2 injection
Lack of enough circulation
Why do you use stone chips ? anyway
Symptom shows micro deficiency mainly potassium but keep in mind that macro deficiency restrict plants to intake micro.
If you give details of your fert and amount you dosing then it will be easier to help you exact.

I am dosing
1. Wild Plant Health Formula PHF-220ml Live Plant Nean Fish Aquarium as micro
2. Aquatic Remedies Aquarium Plant Fertilizer , 220ml as macro
both purchased from amazon.in
then please suggest what type of filter should I use?
Thanks & Regards

I am attaching picture of tank which is taken on 15th April 2017.
I don't know it was lush green growth or not but according to me it was fine. And also I would like to mention that the same dosing and same filter and same co2 I was using that time. But everything suddenly changed after trimming few plants.
the dosing are
1. Aquatic Remedies Aquarium Plant Fertilizer , 220ml as macro
2. Wild Plant Health Formula PHF-220ml Live Plant Nean Fish Aquarium as micro
both purchased from Amazon.in
dosing 2.5ml/day micro and macro alternatively which is mentioned in bottle.

Please suggest what type of filter then I should use to recover from the situation.
Yes circulation problem was there,I have already installed a power head to overcome it.

Is it really nutrient deficiency or something else a disease? as I have not changed anything from 2 years but suddenly plants died off :(
please suggest

I strongly doubt the fert you use what exactly it contains.
Do you disturb the substrate during trimming ?
It is a complete problem of balancing, in planted tank you have to balance Light, Fert and CO2.
Now what you have to do is to change 70% of water weekly for 2 week and then 50% weekly
Use internal power filter for filtration or any type of filter that do not disturb water surface, because surface agitation helps CO2 to escape from water column and with it you can use extra power head for circulation
dose as per your routine and try to change the fert to lab grade is less costly in long term.
What is the l x b x h of your tank ?
In the mean time if possible change the substrate to coarse sand, and rescape the tank.
