Are these plants the bullet proof solution ?

Postby rajivmemon » Sat Dec 31, 2016 7:45 am

Hi,

As suggested by one of the board members @sanammarik i ordered from sreepadma.com the below plants after reading and watching videos on youtube for low maintenance, low co2 requirements hardy plants ....Are they the pathway to a great aquarium and confidence booster for a beginner like me to see plants grow fast ...

Hygrophilla Sp.Quadrivalvis - Broad Leaf
Ceratophllum Demersum
Anubias Lancelota
Cryptocoryne Cognatoides

Kindly suggest ...

Regards
Rajiv

I looked for low light and low co2 requirements and also fast growth with not much need to add external fertilisers, on srepadma.com they have a good list for these criteria and it also matched on youtube and other articles ...

So is this a wrong choice for low tech aquarium, all the videos suggested that these will do well in low tech but will do even better in hi tech plants, kindly suggest ..

if there is no fert dosing, then it wont b a proper low tech modern day planted tank imo...you can then rather go for Diana Walstad method and make use or hard water to grow plants bttr by providing co2 from carbonates...

I am using controsoil and most people say they the soil provides for all nutrients for atleast 4-6 months, i have about 3 inch substrate layer, will that be enough ...

Also abt lighting, i am using really low light , will the above plants species survive, on youtube the experts seems to suggest so , i really want a jungle in the tank ...

So in short i have good soil(contro soil), good filter but low light and no co2 system, is it possible to have a planted tank with above plants...

my exp is a bit dfrnt...i never relied on the nutrients in the substrate completely...I always preferred column dosing nd high to ultra high lights....you can giv it a try and share ur observations.... no harm to chk things out :-bd
