Try at Carpeting

Postby olly11 » Mon Sep 19, 2016 10:05 am

Hello All,

Requesting some advise.

I am wanting to achieve a try at carpeting, please help me with some value suggestion so that I can achieve the same, this however this is my third planted set up and I have successfully managed to grow healthy plants in the last two tanks but I am not from science bag ground and the toughest part for me is making solutions and dosing them, this is where I have failed.

Tank size : L 2ft, B 1ft, H 1ft
Filter : Hang on back filter, (I will put another power filter as well for more water flow)
Light : 2 * 36w PLL
Substrate : A year old ADA
CO2 - DIY - Is a pressurized CO2 needed right away ?

Plants : Monte Carlo & Cuba

Now since my ADA is old I guess I will need to start dosing please help with some ready made solutions that I can use, and how much and when to use. Can please someone help me with this.

Thanks
Oliver

I am new to the planted tank, but I think i can suggest you something,
1. Go for Monte Carlo, it is much easier to handle than HC,
2. IMO 72 watt is too much for 2/1/1,
3. Assuming you have ADA Amazonia soil, no issue you can go ahead with the old soil
4. Read this link, it is very easy for EI. http://www.ukaps.org/index.php?page=dos ... -dry-salts , else you can go for branded if your pocket permits.
5. Pressurized CO2 is the best. .

All d best.

Pressurized CO2 makes a lot of difference.

You can go for a dry start - you will not require co2 supply right now. And you can get a carpet much faster.

hi Sabir and Vikram,

Thanks for advise

I had bought some HC (2 potts) & (MC 3 potts) from galiff last sunday and planted them in bunches, most of it has slowly melted away I can say and a few bunch planted are still alive, not sure what is happening here, any advise on that, does it melt away first and regrow or something is terribly wrong. I am running 2 bottles of DIY co2 at the moment.

Wow!! that looks great...well done indeed \m/
a suggestion, do something to spread the diffused co2 bubbles across the tank :ympeace: :ympeace:
that will ichrease the co2 availability in the water and plants will grow faster :ymhug:

gr8 man, beautifully carpeted, as sanam said distribution of CO2 is necessary, you can put the diffuser right under the outlet of the lilly pipe. It will spread throughout the tank.
