Re: Eleocharis Vivipara in Kolkata Climate

awww man!!

if you folks can't pull it off...then i guess its not worth the shot.

Any substitutes? I was planning to use the natural height of this plant as the background since the tank is 16" high. (1" for tapes and all...3" for substrate = 12" of water)

I was really hoping the feedback would turn out positively. :( :(

Subhadeep

to be honest, i saw this picture and immediately fell in love with the idea.

Image

but, instead of HC, i had thought of glosso and instead of the ADA rocks, i had a serpant shaped wood, was thinking of it...till vivipara became out of reach. Sigh...so gurujis, what are the alternatives for vivipara that would do justice to it?

My experience:
1) With Tirthada, maximum grass comes emersed, my vivipara also
2) So they will turn yellow
3) But can be recovered with DIY CO2, Have done it
4) But but but the main problem is the flow of the filter need to be moderate to the plants, because they give plant lets from the Tip as said, so they tangled like anything...the whole bunch will damage if they tangle!!!either you have to cut them or uproot them...I didnt have HOB that time, with a power filter in 2ftr tank and I made the mess of whole green recovered Vivipara batch. Canister filter is the best to avoid this tricky issue.
5) Its very important to trim continuous(as Tirthada said) to avoid this tangle issue.
6) Cant say anything on temperature as that time it was winter.

i kinda too have a 500-600 lph ipf only and not HOB for that big a tank. My prev HOB was 250 lph for my 1.5'

So, the yellow and dying factor can be tackled?

What kind of substrate did you use that time? DIY or commercial?

Am keeping this:

1.soilrite + laterite
2.4mm gravel
3. 2mm gravel
4. construction sand.

I dont think then i will have any problem with compacting issues of root.
CO2 will be taken care of..will use a new funda that i have caught from youtube.

P.S. Incase i fail to take care of the conditions, what's the worst case scenario and along with that any other substitutes for this species that are a little heat resistant as the max i can reduce the temp to is 28?

Someone suggest some magic with the serpent like wood. The primary idea was glosso in foreground and vivipara in background with the left hand corner empty.

The power head would be turned towards the front glass to minimize water disturbance.

okay Guys!
time to speed up the process.
i was previously going with glosso on everything infront of the wood and vivipara on everything behind it. but since its becoming a little doubtful on the rearing, please suggest some carpeting plants on the fore ground and lighting also.

Tank dimension : 24Lx12BX16H(12" of water)
i was hoping for glosso carpet and very high plants on background which would grow over the wood behind(no vals please as it would not be in sync with glosso.

CO2 will be abundant so that won't be an issue.
Substrate DIY (lat+soil and on that 2mm gravel and on that construction sand)

you have to adjust your wood a bit, that wood may not look good in the tank.

Why you want HM to grow over the wood!!!
