Postby soham » Fri Apr 06, 2012 9:37 am

after a lot of help from the members of this forum combined with my own research i finalized this setup.. its a low tech one..
"Sera substrate as bottom layer, on that gravel and black sand.. Osram 8000k 36 watt light.. hang on back filter..macro and micro fert dosing.. seachem flourish excel as carbon source"
mine is 15 gallon tank.. i am planning to keep dwarf sagg, staurogyne, riccia, ludwigia sp, few moss, crypts and fern... what do u think guys?? should i plant my tank this way??

Nice to see you are back with the plan soham. Will try my level best to guide you through. Start a journal and start posting step by step updates.

Click pictures, post them.

What is he light, pll? Then will bug you a lot for the source. :)

First input, excel is good but co2 is the BEST. setup a diy co2 reactor before you satrt your tank. You will be happy to see he results. Keep excel dosing for twice a week and run your co2 for 24x7.

Tirtha

Search the net with DIY CO2. You will get a lot of links, how to do it. I will try to find a good one and will post.

Can you post a picture of your light please?

Nutrient content of clay(clay mixed with silt) is very high and is very helpful for growing plants..Clay particles are negatively charged ions which can absorb positively charged elements like magnesium calcium potassium ammonium...Clay soil under water pressure gets easily clogged so it is necessary to mix it with larger particles like sand gravels..It also melts easily in water and makes it cloudy hence it is necessary to be covered atleast by an inch of sand gravels to allow slow leaching.

To create clay sticks collect the clay from river banks.( In bengali this soil is called "Etel mati" and is used to make idols). The soil may contain harmful bacteria and hence it is important to kill them by 'Pasteurization' ie sun baking...bake the soil well in sunlight and grate it..Mix it well with sand gravels and use it in the substrate..remember to top it up atleast by an inch of gravel..It is really helpful for plants which grow extensive root system..
