Plants in construction sand (is it possible ?)

Postby soumyadipta9 » Fri Aug 17, 2012 12:44 pm

I am thinking about adding some plants in my 50 Gallon.
Here are the important points:

Volume- 50 Gallon (duh) & Height- 1.5 ft
Light- 2*36 Watt PLL (thats the best I can do)
Substrate- Just fine Construction sand (changing it won't be possible)
CO2- No
Ferts- Might be possible to add K2SO4 & KNO3 if required

Plants- Anything cheap (no Anubias, Java Fern etc.). Actually I have in mind Vallisneria & Amazon Sword. Any other suggestions ? (needs to be available in galiff)

So, the big question, will it be possible to keep these (or any other) plants under the aforementioned conditions ?

i can assure you about few plants in this normal sand.
1) Amazon Sword
2)Lily
3)Ludwigia
4)Bacopa
5) Aponogeton
6) Java Moss
Practically experienced .....so they will very well survive. If possible use DIY CO2 coz result will be grt. you will get all the plants in Gallif except Java Moss. Java Moss you can get from many KAC guys absolutely free.

java moss in normal sand?
and ludwiga means which one?ludwiga repens or ludwiga brevipes?i think both of them will live but can't get proper growth and color without CO2 or macro & micro, though experts will clarify more...
